Emperor's Tales - An Original Children's Play
by Tony Traguardo with assistance from Diana Von Roeschlaub
Emperors' Tales is comprised of a pair of shows that were originally performed as a complete program in Port Washington, New York in 1994 as a Children's Show production. The program is based on two Hans Christian Andersen stories, The Emperor's New Clothes and The Nightingale.
A Quick History:
In late 1994, discussions and negotiations began with Friendship Ambassadors, an exceptional non-profit organization which arranges international tours for profit and non-profit artists and artistic troupes, to take a version of Emperors' Tales across the water to Great Britain.
In April of 1995, an enthusiastic group of 31 children and adults spent 10 days delighting in the sights, the culture and the people of England and Wales. The performances were spirited, and the young performers benefitted greatly from the experience.
The script of Emperors' Tales was honed, edited and tightened during rehearsals for a benefit performance for the trip. What is presented on this website is the complete script for Emperors' Tales, broken down into its two acts, which is completely "performance ready". It is suitable for a cast comprised almost entirely of children, almost entirely of adults or, as it was performed by the Children's Show cast, a careful combination of both.
Emperors' Tales is available to any theatre group interested in producing a version of the show for a negotiable fee (which may possibly be waived for non-profit groups). The script was written by Tony Traguardo and Diana Bandfield in 1994. A copy of the show exists in its entirety on videotape, and it is available for staging ideas. Obviously, it is also evidence of copyright protection. Incidentally, I ask, of course, that no portion of this script be reproduced manually, electronically or otherwise, and that it not be linked from any other website without the express written consent of one of the authors.
